2. To collect quotes for a newspaper report.

Read about Pliny the younger. If you were a reporter what would you like to ask him? Think carefully about feelings (it would be useful to watch the history clip). Give these questions to a Parent to ask. Then imagine you are Pliny the Younger, how would he respond to these questions?

3. To review features of a newspaper.

Read the newspaper can you find, highlight and label the following…

  • A title
  • Quotes.
  • facts (a true piece of information)
  • figures (fancy word for number, this could include a date)
  • captions (text that gives more information about pictures)

4. To write a newspaper report about the Mount Vesiuvis eruption and the destruction of Pompeii.

  • Think of a title, using alliteration.
  • Explain what happened, when and describe what was found.
  • I can use conjunctions to extend sentences.
  • Include interesting facts.
  • Use a quote from Pliny the younger with inverted commas and an interesting word for said.
  • You might want to include pictures and captions.
