Autumn Term – “ Bodies”

Science  

Scientific enquiry:

  • Can construct and record results in a table
  • Can present findings in graphs and charts
  • Can answer questions of findings presented in graph form

Living Things and Their Habitats

  • Can explain that unsupported objects fall towards the Earth because of the force of Recognises that living things can be grouped in a variety of ways
  • Recognises that environments can change and that this can sometimes pose dangers to living things

Electricity           

  • Can identify common appliances that run on electricity § construct a simple series electrical circuit, identifying and naming its basic parts, including cells, wires, bulbs, switches and buzzers
  • Recognises that a switch opens and closes a circuit and associate this with whether or not a lamp lights in a simple series circuit

States of Measure

  • Can compare and group materials together, according to whether they are solids, liquids or gases
  • Observes that some materials change state when they are heated or cooled, and measure or research the temperature at which this happens in degrees Celsius (°C)
  • Can identify the part played by evaporation and condensation in the water cycle and associate the rate of evaporation with temperature.

Geography

Location and place knowledge

  • Can locate and label different countries in the Northern and Southern hemisphere using maps, atlases and digital computer mapping

Human and physical geography

  • Can plot a route on a map or globe from one place to another. Identify countries or significant landmarks that are passed e.g (Brighton to Rome)

Art

Thinking artistically

  • Can make decisions about colours, shade and texture

Skills and techniques

  • Can experiment by making shades of the same colour by adding black or white

History

Knowledge and understanding of events, people and changes in the past

  • Knows that the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age are all periods in UK
  • History
  • Can talk about neo-lithic hunter gatherers and how this developed into early farmers (e.g. Skara Brae)
  • Can talk about key innovations during these periods (e.g. Stonehenge, Invention of Iron)

Chronological Understanding

  • Can describe and compare how their own lives are similar to, or different from, people living in the past.
  • Uses vocabulary directly relating to periods studied (e.g. hieroglyphics, pyramid, vizier, Neolithic, tribal kingdoms)
  • Knows that history  is divided into time periods (e.g. AD/BC, Stone Age, Bronze Age)

Historical Interpretation and Enquiry Skills

  • Is beginning to ask their own questions relating to history

PE

Games

  • Can throw, catch, strike and field a ball with control and accuracy
  • Can dribble a ball and change direction, keeping control of the ball
  • Works effectively as part of a team
  • Can keep possession of the ball

Music

Performance

  • Maintains pitch when singing
  • Can sing with clear diction, pitch
  • Can maintain a simple part  within a group
  • Understands how parts within a group piece fit together

Composition

  • Uses sounds to create abstract effects, including music technologies

Appreciation

  • Uses musical terms related duration (beat/rhythm), pitch, texture, structure, dynamics and tempo to describe and evaluate music.
